paris, je taime

I’m head over heels for Paris, and the thought of leaving fills me with dread! Even though I have five more days here, it’s the first European city where I’ve truly felt at home, despite not knowing the language. How curious is that?

The Seine River is one of my favorites. I adore how it meanders through the heart of the city, bringing a cool respite on warm days and offering a spot for those who enjoy dipping their toes in the water (though that’s not for me—the water’s not the cleanest!).

I’m also in love with the bike rental system here. You simply swipe your card, grab a bike, and go, returning it to any rental station around the city. These stations are conveniently located every few blocks. Riding a bike through Paris tonight, weaving through traffic and narrow streets while admiring the ancient, glowing architecture, was exhilarating.

The local passion for picnics is another charm. Daily, Parisians line the banks of the Seine and fill the parks, enjoying spreads of bread, wine, fruit, and cheese. Tonight, as I pedaled along the Seine, I passed massive, joyous groups immersed in their picnics, their laughter and chatter filling the air. It’s a sight unlike any I’ve seen elsewhere.

Saturday night dance lessons along the Seine are enchanting too. In the evenings, people gather at a particular spot on the riverbank for traditional French dances, set to traditional music. Watching the crowds watch the dancing couples is magical and adds to the delightful atmosphere.

Each of Paris’s Arrondissements has its own unique character, a legacy of the small villages that gradually merged to form this great city. The diversity and charm of each neighborhood are absolutely captivating.

From the art and museums to the shopping, markets, fresh pastries, coffee, and the people—I love everything about Paris! Really, what’s not to love?
